Applications

N & C Parylenes, have been commercially available on the market for many years.  Both offer good protection from moisture and have good strength and durability. "F" or fluorinated Parylene offers better protection in harsh environments, and has better resistance to UV.  The process of chemical vapor deposition is used to apply Parylene, and this deposition takes up to 20 hours, depending upon type and thickness.  There are a number of reasons that make Parylenes stand out as the premier protective barrier. Parylenes will conform to any surface that does not outgas in a vacuum environment, no matter the shape. Parylenes are perfect for items that have sharp ridges or points, as the geometric shape of the object does not affect the coating process.  Parylene offers thin film conformal protection that is more reliable and robust than thick film coatings.

Stratamet is bringing to the market a new class of Parylene called HTX that is superior in properties and lower in cost than the presently available forms of Parylene including N & C & F.
Properties of Parylenes:

  • Excellent barrier against water and humidity
  • Prevents rust and corrosion
  • Resistant to UV
  • Non-toxic
  • Resistant to chemicals and solvents, such as acids, alkalis, and other chemicals
  • No measurable out-gassing
  • Resistant to bacteria and fungus
  • Protects against abrasions
  • Reduces Friction
  • Protection of plastic, rubber, etc. from harmful environmental conditions
